Sami Yaffa is a Finnish musician, whose main instrument is the bass. He has provided the low end for bands such as Pelle Miljoona Oy, Hanoi Rocks, Jetboy, Demolition 23, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, New York Dolls and The Hellacopters.

Yaffa has been in Hanoi Rocks lead singer Michael Monroe’s band since the beginning of 2010

In the fall of 2014, the television series Sami Yaffa – Sound Tracker debuted on the Finnish National Television, YLE. The show has been shown on Netflix, Amazon Prime and in many countries around the world.In the show, Yaffa toured the world and got to know the musical styles and musicians of different cultures in 18 countries. The series won the best music program Golden Venla (equivalent of the Emmy’s in Finland) twice in 2014 and 2015 and has produced three seasons so far.

CAREER

In 1980, as a 16-year-old Sami joined the band Pelle Miljoona Oy and recorded one of the most successful and groundbreaking punk album’s in Finland; “Moottoritie On Kuuma”

HANOI ROCKS (1980-1985)The original Hanoi Rocks was active1980-85. During this time, the band recorded six albums, countless singles and toured Europe, US and Asia, playing hundreds of concerts. In 1983 Sami, together with bandmates Nasty Suicide and Razzle, recorded an album with punk-icon Knox from the band Vibrators. The band and the album was called Fallen Angels.

1987-1990 In 1987 Sami moved to Los Angeles and joined the band Jet Boy for the next two and half years and recorded two albums for major labels Elektra Records and MCA.

1990- Now After moving to New York in 1990, Sami began playing again with Michael Monroe in bands Jerusalem Slim and Demolition 23 recording a self titled album with each band (1990-1995)

From 1995 to -97 Sami moved to Spain and formed the band Mad Juana with singer Karmen Guy. The band made four albums 97-2011.

After moving back to NYC Sami joined the ranks of NYC hardcore Punk band Murphy’s Law briefly.

In 2002 Sami joined the band of the legendary singer Joan Jett and toured the US for the next two years as a member of the Blackhearts and recorded the album “Naked”.

After Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, in 2004, Sami joined the legendary New York Dolls. Sami recorded three albums, and played hundreds of concerts in the ranks of the New York Dolls from 2004 until 2011.

Sami Yaffa has appeared on recordings with Bruce Springsteen, Bo Diddley, Michael Stipe, Slash and Iggy Pop.

In 2007 Sami played in Jesse Malin’s band and recorded the album “Glitter In The Gutter” with him.

In 2010, Michael Monroe and Sami Yaffa started working together again. This cooperation has now

continued for over 11 years, and produced 4 studio albums, one live album, and hundreds of concerts

worldwide.

In 2018 Sami joined the ranks of the Swedish group The Hellacopters for the spring and summer playing festivals around Europe and opening for The Rolling Stones.

During the Covid-19 pandemic when the concert halls fell silent Sami wrote a children’s comic book; Punkin Maailma: Taistelu Plastimiestä vastaan ( World Of Punk: The Fight Against Plastiman). He also created a ceramic art company with his wife Meeri Koutaniemi: Koutaffa Ceramicswww.koutaffaceramics.com and held a gallery exhibition with Meeri showing his graphic art and ceramics and jumped in to the world of radio, creating and hosting specials for the National Radio Of Finland YLE, Radio Sami Yaffa.

Sami Yaffa signed a recording contract wit Vallila Music House in 2020 and entered the studio to record his first solo album “The Innermost Journey To Your Outermost Mind”. The first single “The Last Time”is due May 21 2021, the album release date is September 3 2021.

Sami Yaffa’s autobiography Tie Taipuu (The Road Bends) came out in Finland 2016, the English version will hit the streets by Christmas 2021.
